Aging & Special Populations

In addition to our Medicare work, we have conducted other important projects on aging, including work for the National Association of State Units on Aging.

We also have extensive experience working with low-income populations, and those with serious mental illness, physical disabilities and developmental disabilities. We are highly attuned to issues that might prevent such groups from expressing their true thoughts, and we take care to use appropriate language with them.

Some of the difficult issues we’ve addressed include:

  • Consumer-directed service options for the aged or disabled: identifying limitations and discovering means of facilitation
  • Knowledge, expectations and prudent use of home equity among the aging, especially in regards to reverse mortgages
  • Welfare-to-work programs: exploring attitudes and barriers to participation among participants with low levels of confidence and literacy
